5 reasons Jane Tennant from NCIS: Hawaii is a role model for young girls
There are many reasons fans want NCIS: Hawaii to be saved. It’s something I would love to see, and I’m working through the various characters and why they individually make this a show that needs to come back.
Jane Tennant is the Agent-in-Charge at the Hawaii office of NCIS. She makes it clear that she is someone to follow, and she is someone who leads by example. This doesn’t just make her a great character for her team, but she is also a great role model for those watching. That’s especially the case when it comes to younger girls and women watching.
Jane shows how to listen to her team in NCIS: Hawaii
If you watch a lot of TV shows, you’ll see that the bosses think that they know what’s best. They got into their positions because they deserve it, right? They are the best? Well, in a lot of cases, the bosses tend to be in charge for other reasons and not because they are the best of the best.
One of the greatest things about Tennant is that she knows that she doesn’t have all the answers. She may be the boss, but she still listens to her team. She defaults to them when it comes to experience and skill. That’s a great leader.
Jane even listens when her team members go off on tangents. Yeah, I'm looking at Ernie specifically for that.
Jane will always look out for her team
Tennant has the backs of every single team member. It doesn’t matter if they’ve got themselves into danger, or if danger has come looking for them. Tennant will protect them in any way that she can. When she knows that team members are right and should be heard, she makes sure that’s done.
It doesn’t even have to be a member of her specific team. If there are agents out there who need her help, she will do what she can. When it comes to civilians, she will step up when she needs to.
She listens to concerns in NCIS: Hawaii
Tennant takes time to listen to her team. She wants to know their concerns, whether it’s to do with a case, their personal lives, or even how they worry about her. That doesn’t always mean she takes their advice, though. She will always default to what she believes is the right path when it comes to herself or the case.
Jane is respectful. Listening is a huge part of being a leader. She is able to encourage people to share their gut feelings. After all, this job is all about gut instincts. She wants to nurture her team members, and that makes them better agents and the team as a whole stronger.
Jane wants to see her team succeed in their dreams
When Lucy Tara got the opportunity of a career lifetime, Jane didn’t hold her back. This would mean some temporary changes at the NCIS office, but that didn’t mean Jane put that concern on Lucy. She wanted Lucy to do the best thing for her own career.
This is something all leaders should do. They should want their team members to succeed in their dreams. It gives young girls something to aim to be when they become leaders of a new generation.
She shows you can work and be a mother at the same time
There are always concerns that women can’t have it all. So many people think women should be barefoot and pregnant rather than in the workplace. Well, Jane Tennant makes it clear that mothers can work at the same time, and they can be bad-ass bosses at the same time.
There were problems. Jane had to deal with finding childcare, and she had to deal with her son dealing with his own issues. There were times of regret and guilt, but that didn’t stop Jane from doing something she was passionate in. She was able to find a balance, and that’s something young girls need to see on TV.
Jane Tennant is a role model. We need to see more of her in NCIS: Hawaii.
