During the Chicago PD Season 11 premiere, we learned Adam Ruzek was struggling with his fitness levels. That wasn't the thing stopping him from getting back on the job in the next episode. He had a proficiency test to pass.
It took all episode to find out whether he passed or not. This led to him being stuck at home while his CI found himself in the middle of a situation. Despite Voight and Burgess making it clear that Ruzek needed to stay out of dodge, he couldn't do that. He was willing to put his job on the line for his CI.
Did Ruzek pass the test in Chicago PD?
The episode opened with Ruzek taking the test. He was the last one in the exam room, nervous about answering the multiple choice questions. We know Ruzek knows policing in the modern day, but he had to prove it, and taking tests can be nerve-wracking.
He got the alert at the very end of the episode. He passed the test and is allowed back on the job.
Will Ruzek want to return to the job?
This news wasn't the great news that it should have been, though. It came just after he found out his CI had died on the table. You see, his CI was shot by the perp and Ruzek was there to get him to the hospital. There were bullet fragments stuck in his heart and he died during surgery.
This is going to be a hard loss for Ruzek. He's sure to blame himself considering he was part of the reason this young man had gotten caught up in the poker game that was raided in the first place. Burgess was the one who pulled the guy into wearing a wire to expose the actual raid, but Ruzek will still take this hard.
Could we see Ruzek decide not to get back to work? I doubt that will be the case, but we'll probably see him struggle to work with CIs in the future.
Chicago PD airs Wednesdays at 10/9c on NBC. Catch up the following day on Peacock.
