Sean Murray recently left us with some concerns about McGee and the rest of the team in NCIS in the future. Of course, it could just be comments as Murray genuinely has no idea what’s in store for anyone.
The NCISverse airs its 1000th episode. It’s fittingly during an hour of the flagship series, and it will see characters from the past and from other NCIS shows pop up. The promotion for the episode naturally focuses on how the franchise has grown over the years and what’s in store in the future.
Murray, who plays Timothy McGee on the series, talked with People Magazine about what’s to come. Things sounded a little ominous.
Sean Murray makes it clear that nobody is safe
One of the things Murray shared was that “no one is quite safe.” This is just a snippet from the interview as he talked about things to come and whether there are any cast changes.
This is a show that has seen some major cast changes. In fact, none of the original cast members are still there, with David McCallum’s death marking the end of the last OG cast member. We got a beautiful tribute and goodbye, which saw Ducky dying in his sleep and the team figuring out his last case.
McGee is often viewed as an OG cast member, but he didn’t join the series until the seventh episode of the first season. He was made a series regular in the second season. Likewise, Jimmy Palmer’s first episode was in Episode 21 of the first episode, but he wasn’t made a series regular until much later, in Season 10 of the series!
While the show is no stranger to cast changes, that doesn’t mean we want another one. We’re still not over the loss of Mark Harmon as Gibbs during the 19th season of the series.
This doesn’t mean something will happen to McGee
It’s worth noting that Murray may just be ready for a change that could happen. A lot of the changes that have happened in recent years are actors choosing to move on from the role. Murray did go on to say that he’s not ready to leave and it doesn’t look like anyone else is ready just yet.
So, really, it’s going to be about the writing. Does the writing team think that a creative choice is needed? I don’t think there is, but then, I’m still salty at the loss of a few characters over the years, including Daune Henry’s Clayton Reeves.
I’m going with that Murray is just saying what he can because he doesn’t have a clear answer. NCIS Season 22 has only just been confirmed.
NCIS airs Mondays at 9/8c on CBS.
