The sheriff-based Fire Country spin-off is happening, but not until 2025
There is some great news for Fire Country fans. The universe is going to expand with the sheriff-based spin-off. Morena Baccarin’s Mickey Fox will take the lead.
The spin-off was announced as a possibility ahead of Fire Country Season 2. We learned that there would be a new sheriff introduced that would allow for the possibility for her to lead her own spin-off. In the end, Mickey is a deputy, but she does have room for growth, and it looks like CBS is happy to work with that.
CBS announced that the spin-off had been officially ordered while announcing the fall 2024 schedule. What was clear was that this spin-off will not happen this year, though.
The Fire Country spin-off doesn’t even have a name yet!
While announcing the news, TVLine didn’t even share the name of this spin-off. It looks like CBS is still working that with the series. That’s okay, though, because they all have time.
The Mickey-focused spin-off is not going to be part of the 2024–2025 schedule. That’s not too surprising when you consider just how packed the schedule is this coming year. It’s part of the reason why NCIS: Hawaii and others had to be canceled. Part of that is due to Matlock being pushed form the 2023–2024 season to the 2024–2025 season because of the strike action in the summer.
I’d actually suggested that the network could hold this show for the next season. This allows more room for Mickey’s growth on the series so we get to know her better, and there is a chance to build up a storyline for her to take on in the spin-off series.
The spin-off is set to follow Mickey as she investigates criminal activity on the streets of Edgewater. At the same time, she has to keep her wayward daughter on track and deal with her father, who is an ex-con. We hope to see some recurring appearances from a few Fire Country characters, especially Diane Farr’s Sharon, who is Mickey’s stepsister.
Fire Country airs Fridays at 9/8c on CBS.
