Could So Help Me Todd end up canceled by CBS in 2024?

We know some broadcast shows end up canceled at the end of each TV season. Is So Help Me Todd one of those that will wind up canceled by CBS in 2024?

As the 2023–2024 TV season closes in on the end, we’re looking at the broadcast shows that won’t make it through to another season. So Help Me Todd seems to be one of the CBS shows on the chopping block.

CBS has announced a lot of renewals lately. One of those renewals was a surprising one. After initially being canceled and then renewed for a final season, CBS U-turned again on SWAT, renewing it for Season 8. This means that a spot in the next season has been taken up that was originally going to be free.

Deadline took a look at the shows on the bubble and the chances of them being renewed. Elsbeth was renewed shortly after that, which wasn’t an all-that surprising move. While the linear ratings haven’t been great, this series preforms well in delayed ratings.

The same can’t be said for fellow Thursday night dramedy,  So Help Me Todd. It’s putting this series at the risk of cancellation.

Why So Help Me Todd will likely be canceled

While broadcast networks don’t just look at the linear ratings for decisions, those linear ratings do play a role. And the linear ratings aren’t great. So Help Me Todd is 17th out of all 21 scripted shows from this season in terms of the demo and total audience. However, the ratings aren’t all that much lower than the first season.

There are only so many hours in the schedule, and we know that there are five new shows—three dramas and two comedies—set to arrive in the 2024–2025 season. There aren’t that many dramedies, though, and fans need hour-long dramas that have more humor than tension. It would make sense to keep So Help Me Todd around for that, but the ratings just don’t seem strong enough to justify it.

This could depend on other shows on the network. Right now, it looks like The Equalizer and NCIS: Hawaii will end up being renewed, while CSI: Vegas could end up canceled. If one of the other two shows don’t end up renewed, then it would open a space for So Help Me Todd, even if it moves to the midseason instead of the fall.

It’s going to be a shame if this light-hearted drama comes to an end. This one is set to end with a major cliffhanger at the end of Season 2, leaving a lot of fans angry if CBS decides to cancel it.
