Making it real with Chris (Season 4, Episodes 16-18)

Just as Street was getting himself back together with the pandemic and SWAT, Karen had to reenter his life. Having landed herself back in jail, Street’s mom revealed she was ill and needed him to donate a kidney. Chris warned Street that this might affect him too much and he didn’t owe his mom anything after all she’d done.

Chris had it out with Karen even as Street agreed to donate the kidney. That did lead to Chris and Street finally confronting their feelings for one another and after several seasons of dancing, shared a real kiss. It was a great romantic moment even if it was later spoiled.

Goodbye to Mom (Season 5, Episodes 4&6)

You have to feel for Street. After all Karen put him through, after he gave her part of his kidney and vouched for her at her parole hearing, he learned that less than two months later, his mom had died of a drug overdose. While Street tried to claim he was okay, Chris could tell it was harder on him than it seemed.

The later episodes had Street cleaning up his mom’s effects, coping with the loss as, despite everything, she was still his mom. He concluded that part of him would love her even as he knew how problematic it was, showing that, for better or for worse, Karen had shaped Street’s life as a cop.
