There is some bad news for those waiting for new episodes of The Rookie. There are no new episodes for the rest of 2024.

We’re used to a summer break. Hearing that there wouldn’t be any new episodes of The Rookie in June 2024 made sense. The summer months are when people go away, or they spend time outside. They don’t want to watch TV on a night, and so the broadcast networks hold off on big shows until the fall.

The bad news is that ABC has opted not to bring The Rookie back in the fall. This is arguably a good thing for the show’s consistency, but it’s bad news for those ready to see if Chenford can get back together.

When will The Rookie return to ABC?

ABC has only set the fall schedule at this point. CBS is the only network to get a spring schedule, so we don’t even know if the cop dramedy will keep its Tuesday night slot. This isn’t all that surprising, though. Most of the time, the networks focus on the fall during the May Upfronts, as this is what the advertisers are most interested in.

One thing ABC made clear was that The Rookie’s move to the midseason wasn’t due to linear ratings. The series is still a strong one on the network, and the move to the midseason is a good thing. This move means that the series won’t have to face breaks in the schedule due to too many weeks compared to new episodes.

So, how long are we waiting? The earliest we’re expecting the series is January 2025. However, ABC tends to hold the spring schedule for February and March, so it could mean that we have to wait until then. This could mean that we get around 16 to 18 episodes, especially with filming for the season starting up in June as normal. It would run episodes from February to May with ease.

We’ll be sure to keep an eye on this series as we get toward the end of the summer and into the fall so we know when it will arrive in the new year.
