The cast of The Rookie is seeing a change ahead of Season 7. This news now leads to answers to questions about why a certain cast member wasn’t at SDCC 2024.

When The Rookie took to the stage at SDCC 2024, Tru Valentino wasn’t there. It turns out that is because he isn’t returning to the series for Season 7.

Valentino came into The Rookie in Season 4 as a recurring guest star. He played Aaron Thorsen, a TikTok star who was acquitted of murder. After that, he chose to join the police force after that, which initially led to some discrimination. However, he proved himself as a rookie, and Valentino was upped to series regular for Season 5.

Why is Tru Valentino leaving The Rookie ahead of Season 7?

It’s not all that clear why Valentino is leaving the series. The TVLine report didn’t make that clear, and it’s not like Season 6 ended with a major cliffhanger for Thorsen. In fact, this exit would have made more sense after Season 5, when Thorsen’s life was on the line.

It’s possible that this is Valentino’s choice, but it could be a creative decision. With Thorsen’s rookie year coming to an end, he could end up getting a job elsewhere, with the character making a professional decision that’s right for him.

The seventh season is going to see some changes to the cast with two new characters coming in. One is Deric Augustine, who will play Miles, a Texas transfer. Despite Miles being a police officer for two years, he’s coming into the LAPD as a rookie.

Patrick Keleher will join the series as Seth, who seems to be playing another rookie. It looks like he’s the ideal police officer in every way except for making quick decisions.

We’ll have to wait for The Rookie Season 7 premiere to find out what’s going on with Thorsen.
