The Sandman connections offers hope for Dead Boy Detectives Season 2

Dead Boy Detectives dropped on Netflix last week, and now eyes are on the future of the series. The connection to The Sandman certainly offers it some hope.

There are a lot of people who don’t like watching new Netflix shows because of the risk of cancellation. So, it’s understandable if you’re holding back on Dead Boy Detectives.

As a viewer, I get it. I hate it when a show I like is canceled. The problem is not watching it means that it’s sure to be canceled. Netflix and others don’t care that you’re worried about getting invested only to have it abrupted canceled. The networks want to see that you’re interested.

I will say that the chances of Dead Boy Detectives getting a renewal are up because of the universe the show is connected to. There was a lot of crossover with The Sandman in the first season, and this offers hope for the second.

There are plans for Dead Boy Detectives Season 2

The great thing about Neil Gaiman is that he plans ahead. He has plans for more stories with our Dead Boy Detectives. He wants to expand this world outside of The Sandman, but he also has plans to bring more crossovers with the main series, also on Netflix.

Thanks to it being in a universe that’s already established on Netflix, it does lead to a higher chance of renewal. Plus, there’s the benefit that the second season costs are still on the lower end. It’s really when it comes to the third season that we have to worry a little bit more about it.

What’s interesting is that Dead Boy Detectives wasn’t originally going to be set in The Sandman universe. The series was originally set to go to Max, but then Max decided not to go ahead with it. Netflix saved it and plans changed. This could all be a blessing in disguise.

The Sandman can offer room for closure

It’s worth watching the show even if it doesn’t end up being renewed, and that comes from the fact that it is in a universe where there have been some established crossover elements. This opens the door for some closure for the series if it is needed.

The Sandman already has a second season. With the popularity of that series, we are expecting a third. So, if Gaiman and his team really need it, they have that show. They also have the books to help further the story if there is an abrupt cancellation.

There needs to be a second season of Dead Boy Detectives

One thing I will say is that I need a second season of this series. It was a wonderful look at the world of ghosts and Hell. We got these intriguing characters, with many of them supportive of each other. This show does not shy away from positive friendships and that platonic love that we tend to want to shy away from.

Plus, the first season finale left things wide open for more. Crystal’s story has the most room for growth with how things ended for her—I don’t want to write spoilers here! She will have a lot of questions, fears, and even anger linked to the events that happened, and I can’t wait to see what that means for her relationship with the boys and Niko.

There are plans for where the second season could go. If you don't mind spoilers (or you've already watched the season) then this is the interview you'll want to read.
