The Spencer Sisters renewal is out of The CW's hands for now
It’s been a month since we watched The Spencer Sisters Season 1 finale. Eyes are on whether it will be renewed or not. Could The CW bring more episodes of the series?
TVLine recently reminded viewers that this isn’t actually a CW series. The renewal of the show is out of the network’s hands, much like how the renewals of the likes of Coroner and Burden of Truth have been throughout the years.
The Spencer Sisters is a Canadian series. It was acquired by The CW for an American run as the strike action went on. What are the chances of the series being renewed, and what decisions can The CW be involved in?
Will The Spencer Sisters be renewed for Season 2?
Things aren’t looking great for the series. CTV is the network that airs the series in Canada, and it hasn’t yet offered a renewal for the quirky crime drama.
In some good news, it’s not been canceled. However, CTV doesn’t tend to keep a lot of shows in limbo if there is a renewal coming. We just have to look at how quickly Transplant has been picked up each season. This long wait in news about the series makes it look like it has been quietly canceled. It is possible that this is just due to everyone discussing storylines for the next season and pitching them to CTV.
If the series is renewed by CTV, there’s no guarantee that The CW will pick up the second season. The network has a choice to acquire each season at a time. Considering the way the network is running with less original content, we could see the show picked up, even if it is to run it in the spring or summer where lower ratings are more acceptable for licensed programming since it costs less than to make its own shows.
The Spencer Sisters is available to stream on The CW App.
