We knew the 1000th episode of the NCISverse would need to pay tribute to a few characters. One of those had to be Caitlin Todd, who was there in the very beginning of the series. In fact, Todd was connected to the case in the series premiere that was connected to the 1000th episode case.
There were a far few Easter eggs in the episode. Of course, we got the case that connected to one from the past. Fornell was the only one left who remembered that cast, one that took place in “Yankee White,” the series premiere.
While Gibbs is off in Alaska somewhere and Tony is somewhere in Europe, Caitlin Todd was the other direct connection to that episode. She was the Secret Service member on Air Force one at the time who helped NCIS take down the terrorist and protected her president. That led to Gibbs asking her to join his team.
Dr. Rachel Cranston was mentioned in the NCIS episode
The first connection to Caitlin Todd came with the mention of the bombs. Dr. Rachel Cranston was one of the targets. She is Caitlin’s sister, and we’ve met Rachel a few times in the series over the years. With a different surname, it would be easy to overlook the connection to Todd.
The last time Rachel was seen or even mentioned in the show was back in Season 11. McGee would have known her and Caitlin, but everyone else has moved on so she doesn’t get brought up anymore.
Kasie brought the other Todd connection in the 1000th episode of the NCISverse
The other connection came toward the end of the episode. Kasie made a call to get Air Force One grounded, knowing that was the target. She spoke to Agent William Baer Jr, who was not interested in following the request to ground Air Force One.
That name may not initially ring any bells, and that’s okay. He was the son of Caitlin Todd’s former boss in the Secret Service. Again, with this man not being mentioned since Todd left the Secret Service, you’ll be forgiven for not spotting that Easter egg right away.
The NCISverse 1000th episode is now available to stream on Paramount+.
