The Irrational ended Season 1 on a huge cliffhanger, putting Rose in danger. What does it mean, and how will it play for Season 2?

Caution: This article contains spoilers for The Irrational Season 1 finale

The Season 1 finale for The Irrational had the hunt for the church bomber getting more extreme when Jace was killed looking into it. Alec and Marisa tracked who was responsible and aided by Alec’s sometime flame Rose Dinshaw (Karen David). Rose’s shady contacts proved important in finding a key clue.

That helped the team unravel the truth that Senator Sanford set up the bombing to cover up how he caused the accidental death of a staff worker he was having an affair with. Sanford didn’t expect the church to be occupied but used the publicity for his campaign.

Mercer tricked Sanford into confessing to the murder to the press, so he was arrested. It looked like it was all done as the story then jumped six weeks ahead to show Rose finding her car had a flat.

A random driver offered help, but Rose realized this was a trap. She tried to fight her way out of it, only to have a bag placed over her head and shoved into a van as the show ended.

So now the question is, who kidnapped Rose and why?

What does this mean for Rose in The Irrational Season 2?

Speaking to TV Insider, showrunner Arika Lisanne Mittman admitted that viewers will have to “wait and see” what happens to Rose as they’re still mapping out Season 2.

"We knew for a long time how we wanted to wrap up the church bombing story. In terms of what tag we were going to give viewers to come back and tune in next season, we batted around a lot of different things for a while. It wasn’t until we started breaking the finale that we landed on that piece of it…We love Karen, and we love how those characters play together, so we felt like it was definitely something worth exploring. Also, from a character standpoint, it’s really interesting to see how Alec navigates his first relationship post-divorce."

Given her past work of getting involved in dark deals and the hint she may have been a legitimate spy, there’s no shortage of people who might want Rose abducted. The fact the kidnappers addressed her by name proves she was the target.

Yet there’s the mystery if this is somehow targeted after Alec, who surely ruffled his share of feathers taking down a corrupt Senator. It sets up a powerful Season 2 with Alec no doubt searching for his girlfriend, and fans are excited to see how The Irrational concludes this cliffhanger.

The Irrational Season 1 is now streaming on Peacock.
