There are a lot of great crime novels out there, and many of them are being turned into a series. That’s the case for A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder by Holly Jackson.
There is no doubt that YA crime dramas are growing in popularity. We just have to look at the immediate success of School Spirits. Younger fans love to read and watch crime shows, but they want something that speaks to them. And that means following protagonists that are around their own age.
Even older adults can enjoy YA dramas. There’s a chance to look at the high school years a little more objectively and understand the way the adults are acting a little better than before.
A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder focuses on a closed case
Usually, crime dramas are focused on open cases. We follow the protagonists as they put the clues together and help police solve murders. They may even want to protect their own innocence as they’re solving the crimes.
That’s not the case with A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder. The novel, and now the series, follows Pip Fitz-Amobi looking into a closed case. You see, the police know who killed schoolgirl Andie Bell. It was her boyfriend, Sal Singh. The whole town is sure that he did it. Well, the whole town except Pip.
She doesn’t think that Sal did it, and she’s sure the murderer is still out there. So, what does she do? She goes out on a mission to solve the crime. Of course, if the real murderer is still out there, they’ll want to keep their crime covered since they got away with it. How much danger is Pip going to find herself in?
