When could the Fire Country spin-off series air on CBS?
As of right now, the Fire Country sheriff spin-off series isn’t officially happening. It is something that CBS is looking at, as the show looks to form a franchise.
Of course, a lot of successful shows on the network have formed franchises. We’ve seen the likes of NCIS and FBI grow with shows. Hawaii Five-0 and Magnum PI are set in the same universe as NCIS, so they could technically count.
Is it really that surprising then that CBS is looking to do it with Fire Country as well? Like NBC opted to grow the Chicago Fire universe with Chicago PD first, CBS will look to grow the firefighter drama with a cop drama first.
Fire Country spin-off eyed for 2025 release
According to our sister site One Chicago Center, the spin-off series is set for a release sometime in 2025. It’s not clear if this is the midseason or if it will be held for fall 2025.
In fact, CBS has made it clear that it isn’t set on bringing the show before it’s ready. The aim is to make sure the episodes are well written and everyone has time to work on the production. This could mean a fall 2025 start.
Of course, broadcast shows are used to working with quick timelines. A midseason 2025 release does make a lot of sense. Fire Country is a Friday night drama. While the ratings are good for the night, they’re not quite as strong as they could have been if it aired midweek. This could be a concern for the network, so airing a spin-off in the midseason to test its viability is a safe option.
We need to meet the characters first. The spin-off will focus on a new character, who will be introduced in Fire Country Season 2. This character isn’t going to be introduced in a backdoor pilot. Instead, she could end up being a series regular on the firefighter drama if it proves she can’t hold her own show.
Fire Country Season 2 premieres on Friday, Feb. 16 at 9/8c on CBS. Catch up on the series on Paramount+.
