It is very clear that Detective Kate Silva is a capable cop. We got to know her in the Law & Order: SVU season 26 premiere, including how she is a nepo baby who wants to make a way for herself in the cop world. Well, there also seems to be a few secrets that she’s hiding.
Right at the start of the episode, we learned that Silva had moved from Homicide to SVU. Velasco made a comment about how she is a “glutton for punishment.” Homicide is tough enough, but SVU is a whole different ball game. And yet, Silva wants this job.
Of course, she wants to make a difference. That’s something Juliana Aiden Martinez explained to us in our interview with her. She wants to help women who have been through something terrible and get justice for them, but it does seem like there is something more.
Why would Silva want to move to SVU in Law & Order: SVU?
There is still plenty of time to explore who Silva is. This is a woman who wants to make her own way in the world. She doesn’t want special treatment just because her dad was a cop and deputy commissioner. She is ready to prove herself.
But what would make her move to SVU? It could be something as simple as she just wants to make a difference for other women. It’s possible that she is ready to help see change come, and it all starts with a push to get justice for those who have been sexually assaulted and raped.
However, there’s likely another motivation. Is it possible that something happened in Homicide that made her move to a different department? Will we get a storyline that involves her partner in Homicide? Or will we find out that there was something about her dad that made her want to move—and that’s why she doesn’t want special treatment?
Law & Order season 26 airs Thursdays at 9/8c on NBC. Catch up the following day on Peacock.
