As much as we love The Equalizer, we would also love to see the potential spin-off series. In some great news, the leads for this potential show have been found.
The Equalizer spin-off still hasn’t been officially greenlit. However, there will be two characters introduced in season 5, episode 16, who could end up getting their own series. This isn’t a backdoor pilot, and more like the way Fire Country brought in Mickey, who eventually landed her own spin-off Sheriff Country.
The Equalizer lands a Bosch vet for a role
The biggest name out of the two is sure to be Titus Welliver, especially when it comes to the world of TV crime dramas. Welliver has played Harry Bosch in both the original series for seven seasons and then the spin-off Bosch: Legacy for three seasons. Legacy season 3 will be the last of the series—and the last for Welliver to play the character for now.
Welliver will come into The Equalizer as Hudson Reed, according to Deadline. He is a former top CIA operative who is connected to Robyn MaCall via an old mentor. He also has a dark secret, but is this personal or connected to his work?
The other cast member to join in The Equalizer season 5, episode 16 is Juani Feliz, who will take on the role of Samantah Reed. Yes, you’ll see that the surname is the same, and Hudson has trained his daughter in weapons and martial arts. This is a woman with a mysterious past, but is it connected to her dad’s dark secret?
Will The Equalizer spin-off happen?
As of right now, things are looking on the positive side for the spin-off. There is a lot of chatter about it, and the OG series is still performing strong in the ratings. As long as the two characters gain some interest from people, I could see the spin-off happening.
I am more worried about the future of The Equalizer to be honest. While the series is performing well compared to other shows, it’s not performing as well as it has in the past. The timeslot change certainly plays a part in that. This is a series that is produced by Sony and licensed out to CBS, which can mean extra negotiations are needed for renewals. We saw the series on the bubble last year due to this, and we could see it on the bubble again.
The Equalizer returns on Sunday, Feb. 16 at 10/9c on CBS. Catch up the following day on Paramount+.
