The Reacher season 3 finale picks up off the back of the way episode 7 ended, but it finished with a resolution to the story. Would Reacher get his revenge? Take a look at the events of the episode.
Caution: This post contains SPOILERS for the Reacher season 3 finale.
At the end of the previous episode, everyone learned that Quinn had sent a trap to the “buy.” He decided to jump in and try to save the ATF, but it didn’t quite go to plan. Many of them died, but fortunately, Beck was saved and Reacher and Duffy was able to get him back to the house.
Now it was time to get into the house. Everyone splits up in there to deal with their own situations. Reacher and Neagley need to go after Quinn, Duffy needs to find Theresa, and Villanueva needs to get Richard.
Villanueva puts up a fight to get to Richard in the Reacher season 3 finale
I did fear that something would happen to Villanueva, like he would end up suffering a heart attack or something based on how much everyone kept going on about his health. However, he put up a good fight against one of Quinn’s men in the bathroom. It was loud, though, and I was surprised that only Richard ended up hearing the fight.
Richard was able to help lead Villanueva to an exit, but that exit turned out to blocked. They needed to find a way to escape, and it did end up with Richard taken by Quinn again.
This part of the story did bring some sort of redemption for Beck. He was a terrible man, and nothing makes up for all the bad that he did. However, this episode saw him really stand up to protect his son, although I do wonder if he would have shot Quinn had the gun not falling apart. In the end, Beck sacrificed his life, giving Richard time to pick up a gun to threaten Quinn with. Quinn had no choice but to get out of the house.
I do appreciate the ending for Richard. He finally has a chance to walk away from the life, and I hope he follows through with that and follows his passion.
Duffy searches for Theresa in Reacher
Another character I was worried about in the episode was Theresa. I feared that Duffy wouldn’t make it to her in time, but she did. And she even got to shoot a guy right where a guy definitely wouldn’t want to be shot!
This ended up being such a personal case for Duffy, and to be able to see the reunion between Theresa and her grandmother was everything. There is still so much healing for the two of them. Drugging Theresa will mean that she’s starting at Day 1 for recovery, and there will be a lot of temptation with that, but at least Theresa has family to help her. And I get a sense that Duffy isn’t going to turn her back on her CI.

Reacher finally gets to take down Paulie
While Neagley dressed up as a waiter to follow Quinn and the buyers, Reacher took care of Paulie. This fight scene was more than worth waiting all season for. We got to see just how unequal the two were in terms of size and power. It was a little bit like a David and Goliath fight, and who would ever think that Reacher would be the David in this situation?
There were a couple of moments when it looked like Paulie had the upper hand. Did anyone else think that there was no way for Reacher to get out of that hanging situation? Now I know what to do if that ever happens to me! I also didn’t think that Reacher should have been able to get out of the situation in the water, but one thing that Reacher can do is stay calm. Getting out of that type of situation requires being able to think clearly, and that means remaining calm.
The fight in the gate house was just perfection. Paulie consistently relied on his size and power, but Reacher could also rely on his brains. When your enemy just stands and allows themselves to be shot, you should think that they’ve done something to tamper with the gun.
After dealing with Paulie, Reacher also got the chance to deal with Quinn. It looked like the Russians would get their man first, but Neagley offered up the money (and then threatened to destroy it with a paperwork) and the Russians were happy enough to walk away from that. This gave Reacher the revenge moment that he needed.
I think the icing on the cake was Quinn remembering everything. With the mention of Dominque Kohl’s name, the memories came back. Quinn realized exactly who he was facing, and he now understood why Reacher was so hellbent on revenge. There was that element of realization that there was no way out of this one, and there wasn’t. Reacher wasn’t making the same mistake again.
In the end, this was a great season that ended with fight scenes that were more than worth the wait. As usual, Reacher didn’t end up with the girl, but he wasn’t the one giving the speech this time. It was refreshing to see it coming from Duffy! However, I would love to see those two team up again if the situation called for it.
Reacher is available to stream on Prime Video.
