After getting a bittersweet episode focused on Jesse Blackdeer and his search for his daughter, Revival season 1, episode 9 picks up with answers about where Ramin is. Meanwhile, Dana and Wayne team up to find Em.

Caution: This post contains SPOILERS for Revival season 1, episode 9.

We pick up immediately to learn what happened to Ramin. After all, the last we saw, he was knocked out by Jesse Blackdeer, who didn’t trust him enough to take him to where he was hiding. Sadly, Jesse didn’t let Dana and others know where he was, leading to him being taken by a certain pastor.

At the end of Revival season 1, episode 8, Em was taken by the authorities after she was lured out. Of course, Dana and Wayne are immediately on the case.

Blaine wants answers from Ramin in Revival season 1, episode 9

The episode starts with us finding Ramin, who is tied up in a shed somewhere. Blaine took him, because he has been reading Ramin’s journal. He wants to learn more about Revival Day, and he thinks Ramin has the answers.

Ramin doesn’t give him any information, but he does learn from Blaine that on Revival Day, there was a bright light shining from the source of “hell’s gates opening.” Blaine also shares about his angel who has gone missing, and Ramin knows exactly the creature Blaine means.

Their conversation is cut short when Dana and Wayne rush after him. They know that he was involved in the murder of Aaron, and that he likely has something to do with Em. After all, he wants to kill Revivers, doesn’t he?

Dana and Wayne also want to get answers about Rose, believing that he killed Rose. He claims he didn’t do it, and I’m on the side of believing him even without the flashback in Revival season 1, episode 8. Blaine doesn’t seem to think that Rose’s body was in one of the cars in his junkyard.

They don’t have anything that will stick on Blaine, but they need it. While Dana isn’t sure that he killed Rose and Em, she knows that he’s up to something. This does lead to videos of the “angel” and Revivers being discovered. Is it possible that the “angel” and the alien creature Ramin saw are two different things? I’m going with those who aren’t ready to cross over are burned up, while those ready to cross go peacefully.

Em suffers from visions in Revival

During all this, Em is trapped in the prison for Revivers. It’s clear that she is more dangerous than the others, but she’s also suffering from a psychosis of sorts, as she gets visions of her mom. Is this something to do with some of the experiments on her, or is it due to how she used up her abilities on her sister and needed to be revived again in the water?

Rhodey goes to see her to apologize and explain. It’s all pretty much pointless at this point, but we can see that the snake venom is doing a number on his body. Em breaks his neck through the bars, further proving that she is a danger to everyone.

The mayor and his wife continue to get some time together, which is when she’s able to tell him that it sounds like the Revivers are going to be moved. The mayor needs to get to the bottom of this before it’s too late. He will do whatever it takes to get his wife back. He needs to turn to the Cypress family to get their help, since Em is also involved.

As for Em, she has to face her bad decisions through her visions of her mom. Nithiya goes to help her, which leads to Em sharing the story of what happened the night of Patty’s death. It wasn’t the cancer that took her as we’ve always sort of been left to believe. Instead, we learn that Em hit a deer on the way to the bar with Patty in the car, where she was going to help Dana. Patty died from the result.

Em notes that Wayne would usually pick Dana up, but he didn’t answer her calls. Well, there’s a reason for that. He was sleeping with the mayor’s wife, Diane. While Patty and Wayne had separated, Dana points out that she had blamed herself for two years believing she was the reason for her mom’s death.

A rescue mission set up

With the information, Wayne and Dana look at a way to get the Revivers out of the prison. We get a look at how many don’t respect Wayne, because he only started helping Revivers when he found out Em was one of them. At least an attack on Lester for helping a Reviver leads to Nella getting to the station, where she’s able to tell Dana that she can get Revivers out.

The General is planning on putting the Revivers on a railway north that goes all the way to Lake Superior. This could lead them to anywhere, and the cops need to derail the plans. Everyone has a part to play in this, including the mayor and Ramin. The latter gives Carla vials of lake water to give to each of the Revivers, improving their strength and helping them save themselves.

While the cops carry out the attack mission, Ramin goes to see Blaine to get more information about Revival Day. Thanks to Blaine sharing that Em was on the bridge before the light but not after, Ramin is able to figure out that Em’s death started Revival Day. However, he doesn’t have a chance to tell anyone, as Blaine gets Ramin’s gun and holds him at gunpoint to get out of jail.

It works, with the majority of the Revivers getting out. Em is left behind, but one of her Blaine’s followers gets her out. We all knew that this was going to be a trap, as he takes Em straight to Blaine at the church, since he believes that Em is the Mother of Babylon and the reason the “gates of hell” opened.

Lester manages to make a call to Wayne, but can Wayne and Dana get to the church in time, and what’s happened to Ramin? It’s all to play for in the Revival season 1 finale.

Revival airs on Thursdays at 10/9c on Syfy.
