NCIS Season 23 may be starting off with the focus on Agent Alden Parker in the aftermath of his father’s death, but all of the characters will have their time to shine once his arc is completed. What is in the works for one of the longest-running characters, Agent Timothy McGee?

In a preview with TVLine, executive producer Stephen D. Binder discussed what was in store for the characters in Season 23, describing their individual arcs in terms of the theme of the season, which is aptly called “NCIS on fire.” While he certainly didn’t give anything away in terms of what would happen with any of the characters, he did tease some things in store, especially for McGee.

He said that McGee, played by Sean Murray since season 1, would have something occur within his family that is “shocking to him but also wonderful and really scary.” Now, he and his wife, Delilah, are parents to twins, so is it possible that after her pregnancy, Delilah was told it was too risky to have more kids? Is there another McGee baby in the works?

What could be the "shocking but wonderful" thing that McGee experiences in NCIS Season 23?

It could also involve his recently discovered half-sister, who was born via donor conception by his father. Maybe they get closer or will somehow be more involved in McGee’s life going forward. While we don’t know if Murray’s off-screen sister Sarah McGee, played by Troian Bellisario, would make another appearance, this could also be a storyline that involves her as well.

There are so many opportunities in store for how McGee’s story plays out. Fans have been wanting to see more for him, especially after his investigation in the previous season found him risking his job. He had thought that Deputy Director Gabriel Laroche was corrupt and while all was eventually revealed, it nearly cost him his job and he was also missing time with his family. After such a harrowing arc for McGee, we’d love to see an update on how he is doing after that particular storyline is over.

While there is also a chance that the storyline is career-related, it may not necessarily be McGee’s career. Delilah may have something going on with her job that could mean new opportunities that McGee may also be affected by if he needs to step up more at home as well as being a working law enforcement agent.

However McGee’s story plays out, fans are excited to see what is next for him!

NCIS season 23 premieres on CBS on Tuesday, Oct. 14 at 8/7c. Previous episodes are available on Paramount+.
