20-Squad will take some time off (Here's why SWAT season 8 is off the air)

SWAT season 8 will be off the air for a few weeks. We have a rough idea of when it will return.
“Hostages” – SWAT’s anti-terror sting operation at a bus station is thrown into chaos when volatile felons, fleeing the police, burst in and take the bus station hostage. Hondo and the team must play along, maintaining their cover as hostages while they work to ferret out the terrorist in their midst. The time has come for SWAT season 8 to go on a short break. There won’t be any more new episodes in March 2025, and we have a rough idea as to when it will return.

In some good news, SWAT season 8 is only going off the air temporarily for now. It’s a planned break in the schedule, which will help to reduce the breaks needed on the other side of this break. In some bad news, it means we’re going without new episodes and reruns for some time.

March Madness takes over on CBS

Thursday and Friday nights are about to be taken over by March Madness. Yes, it’s all about the college basketball playoff games, and CBS has had the rights to air the games for some time now. We’re used to the series taking this time off around this time of year. As much as it sucks at first, it is a good thing on the other side.

There are always more weeks than there are episodes to air, which usually means that the networks have to air reruns. When there are sport fixtures on instead, it offers the networks a chance to space out the schedule for genuine reasons. After all, it’s not like the networks can air two things at the same time.

So, when SWAT season 8 does return, there will be fewer breaks needed before the season finale, which is sadly going to be the series finale.

High Ground
“High Ground” – During a hiking trip, Powell and Gamble stumble upon an illegal weed farm and find themselves taking on a dangerous cartel, on S.W.A.T., Friday, Feb. 28 (10:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network, and streaming on Paramount+ (live and on-demand for Paramount+ with SHOWTIME subscribers, or on-demand for Paramount+ Essential subscribers the day after the episode airs)*. When will SWAT season 8 return with new episodes?

The question now is how long the break will be. It’s going to be at least two to three weeks long. March Madness comes to an end on April 7, 2025, which means we’re waiting until after that for Friday nights to get back to normal. It suggests a return date of Friday, April 11.

CBS hasn’t confirmed this just yet. It’s purely speculation on our part.

In some terrible news, it is going to be the final season; at least, on CBS. Shemar Moore is trying to get Netflix or another network to save it, but negotiations between Sony and CBS have officially come to an end, and the series likely isn’t going to get a third extension.

SWAT is available to stream on Paramount+.
