The Equalizer could be renewed for a sixth and final season

The Equalizer is on the bubble, but there is a little bit of hope for season 6.

There is a glimmer of hope for The Equalizer season 6. Of course, it’s something that we’ve heard before, and now we’re not so trusting!

The Equalizer was one of the CBS shows left on the bubble in February 2025. While nine shows were renewed, eyes were on some of the FBI shows, SWAT, and The Equalizer. They all have one thing in common. They come from outside studios.

The Equalizer, like FBI: International and FBI: Most Wanted, come from Universal Television Studios. This means that there are licensing agreements to work on, which makes renewing the shows a little trickier.

There is some hope for The Equalizer season 6

As of right now, The Equalizer is firmly on the bubble. It could go either way, and Deadline reports that the season 5 finale is set as a series finale if needed. It looks like this series is learning from the mistakes of a few others in the past, such as NCIS: Hawaii and So Help Me Todd, and isn’t leaving a cliffhanger to chance.

However, there is the possibility of the Queen Latifah series being renewed for a sixth and final season. Negotiations are underway at the moment. FBI and FBI: Most Wanted were able to secure renewals thanks to the cast members agreeing to cut back on some episodes they would appear in, helping to cut the costs of the shows. This is a direction The Equalizer could take.

I’d hazard a guess that The Equalizer would do things similar to Law & Order: SVU. That show also had actors agree to not appear in all episodes, except for Mariska Hargitay. After all, there is no SVU without Olivia Benson! I could see Queen Latifah remaining in all episodes since there is no team without Robyn McCall!

We’ve heard this before with NCIS: Hawaii

There’s going to be a déjà vu moment for NCIS: Hawaii fans. We heard this before.

As the NCIS series sat on the bubble last year, there were talks of renewing it for a fourth and final season. This would allow that cliffhanger to be resolved and to ensure the series got the sendoff that it deserved. In the end, CBS shocked everyone by cancelling it.

So, I’ll say that I’m not wholly convinced when CBS says that there’s a chance of a final season. Until there’s an official renewal notice, I’m not holding my breath.

We likely won’t know until March or April now due to Skydance taking over Paramount Global, the head company of CBS. This is supposed to finalize by April, and it’s clear that Skydance will want to make some final decisions about the CBS schedule for 2025–2026.

The Equalizer airs on Sundays at 10/9c on CBS. Catch up the following day on Paramount+.
