It has been a long wait for some of our favorite shows to return. The wait for The Equalizer is one of the longest.

There is some bad news for those waiting for new episodes of The Equalizer. There won’t be a new episode on tonight, Sunday, Jan. 19. CBS has opted to wait until February for this series to return, and it is a good thing in the long run. That doesn’t make the wait easy, though.

Will there be a rerun of The Equalizer on tonight?

If there isn’t a new episode, what about a rerun? That has been happening a lot across CBS while we wait for winter premieres. There is some more bad news.

CBS will air the last Divisional Playoff game of the NFL season tonight. Coverage is set to start at 6:30 p.m. ET and will run until 10 p.m. ET. Then there could be overtime that pushes it later into the night.

With The Equalizer moving to the 10 p.m. ET/PT timeslot when it does return, CBS could have opted for a rerun of the game. Instead, the network is trying to take advantage of the boost in the ratings by airing reruns of the new Hollywood Squares. CBS likes to give a boost to new shows after big football games, so it’s not that surprising.

When will The Equalizer return with new episodes?

There is a wait for new episodes of the series. The Equalizer season 5 won’t return until Sunday, Feb. 16. If you’re not a fan of football, this is the week after the Super Bowl.

This delay does make a lot of sense. January is taken over by football and award shows. Then there’s the Super Bowl during the start of February. It doesn’t make sense for CBS to bring a show back for a week to then have multiple weeks off. In fact, CBS has done this in the past, and it didn’t help the shows’ successes at all!

So, it’s better to have the break now. When the show does come back, there will be fewer weeks until May compared to the shows that did return in January, which could help to reduce the need for more breaks in the schedule.

The Equalizer will return on Sunday, Feb. 16 at 10/9c on CBS. Catch up on the series on Paramount+.
