Dante had finally built up the courage to talk to Big Ben about the past. Now he has to face a new reality in The Equalizer season 5, episode 5.

During the previous episode, Dante returned to see his father. Big Ben was going through a major surgery, and Dante wanted to be there. He felt a duty to be there, but the two haven’t had the best relationship over the years.

The Equalizer has done an amazing job in showing us the stressful relationship. We’ve had a chance to really understand Dante’s feelings, and it felt like he’d finally get some closure. To have Big Ben not recognize who Dante was at the end of the previous episode was heartbreaking. What does it mean now?

Dante struggles with where he belongs in The Equalizer season 5, episode 5

This new episode will see Dante face this life as it is now. He doesn’t get the closure that he feels like he needs. Instead, he is stuck with a man who doesn’t even know him. Is there a chance Big Ben will get his memories back? That’s unknown.

It leaves Dante wondering whether to be in New York or back in Los Angeles. Where does he belong?

I love that Dante’s decisions aren’t about Robyn and romance. They’re about his past, his future, and his difficult relationship with his father. There’s something to be said for a show having this fork in the road for something other than a romantic relationship. It doesn’t happen often in shows, but it happens a lot in life, so it’s necessary.

As for Robyn, she has to make a choice as well. We’ve wanted to see Robyn and Dante together for so long. The fact that Dante made Robyn his first call when he came to New York says a lot. He wants to be with her, and she still isn’t quite all in. It makes it harder with everything that’s going on now, but we’ve waited so long for this.

Yet Miles is trying to get his ex back. This makes sense. As the positive feelings start to return for someone, it can be difficult to remember the bad. Or maybe we’re more willing to overlook the bad. However, for Miles and Robyn to work, they both need to own the problems within the relationship. Can it even work? And does Robyn even want it to when there’s Dante right there?
