It’s time for the task force to go after their first female serial killer in The Hunting Party season 1, episode 3. Take a look at the events of the episode.

Caution: This post contains SPOILERS for The Hunting Party season 1, episode 3

If we didn’t already have the sneak peek for The Hunting Party season 1, episode 3, the opening of the episode would have been much more powerful. The episode opened with this feeling that the male would be the threat. After all, when we think of serial killers, we usually assume that they are going to be male.

In the end, Lowe was a woman. Brenda Lowe was one of the more fascinating cases of all. She was a woman who connected more with wolves than with people, and that comes up in the new episode.

The Pit has changed the way serial killers act in The Hunting Party season 1, episode 3

Bex notes that Brenda has changed since going into The Pit. Whatever the treatment was has led to Brenda being a little more sociable. She’s willing to speak to people, but she also wants something more than just hunting down people who hunt animals.

What is going on? Well, it turns out that Brenda wants to reconnect with her wolf pack. The wolves were her family, and as Bex and the team realize that the wolves are dead, they know the danger Brenda will become to people.

We get a chance to see who psychopaths adapt in their environment. Their needs change depending on treatment or actions against them. In this case, Bex realizes that Brenda is less predictable but predictable at the same time. While Bex doesn’t initially know what Brenda is doing, it’s soon clear that she is out for revenge against those who took her family from her. Once Brenda realizes that she is at the graveyard of her wolves, she turns against innocent humans who are simply enjoying the long weekend.

In the end, Bex is able to get to Brenda, leading to her recapture. The case is just something to continue the case of the week storyline. The main story is in the development of The Pit and the reason it exploded.

Odell is clearly up to something in The Hunting Party

I did question whether Odell was actually part of a prison escape at first. Now it seems like it, but that he doesn’t really know what he was doing the day The Pit exploded.

Hassani turns to Bex with video footage of Odell’s office on the day of the explosion. Bex doesn’t want to believe that Odell was involved in it, but Hassani is sure that there’s something going on. Odell went off the map after the incident of burning the man alive. There are two years unaccounted for and then he became the warden of The Pit. So, what happened in those two years?

At the end of The Hunting Party season 1, episode 3, he meets with a woman. She wants Odell to let her worry about the people closing in on questions about the explosions. Did she want someone free, or was she trying to shut down The Pit? Why exactly did Odell go off the grid for a year?

There is definitely more to this story. I think that story is somewhere in between Bex’s and Hassani’s thoughts on the matter.

The Hunting Party airs on Mondays at 10/9c on NBC. Catch up the following day with Peacock.
