I honestly think that the cops were so certain the magician did it in The Irrational season 2, episode 10 was ridiculous. I do wish that Alec commented on that behavior during the episode.
Caution: This post contains SPOILERS for The Irrational season 2, episode 10
Alec and Rose don’t get a normal date night. It turns into a murder investigation when an audience member participates in a trick gone wrong. The cops immediately think that the magician did it, which is absolutely ridiculous.
If the magician was going to kill someone, it wouldn’t have been during a magic trick. All eyes would be on the magician. I do wish Alec could have pointed out this behavior—and if he did, it wasn’t a big enough part of the episode.
Alec and Rose find the real murderer in The Irrational season 2, episode 10
It ends up being left to Alec and Rose to get to the bottom of the case. They aren’t officially on the case, which makes it somewhat difficult to investigate, but it also helps to ease the burden a little because they can simply ask questions. People are more likely to talk when they don’t think they’re being investigated.
There were a few red herrings thrown in, which were needed for the episode. After all, we can’t have the murderer found right away. It led to suspicions on a former partner who was left by the wayside when Helena made it big, and the woman who played the piano in the hall behind a one-way mirror.
In the end, it all came down to a previous lesson Alec had given the audience. Helena was given a suggestion on which audience member to pick. She ended up picking a woman who actually wanted to expose Helena as a bad magician. This was all set up by someone who knew Helena well—her mentor.
Why would her mentor want Helena arrested? Well, he was jealous of her. It was all pretty simple as you went through the episode.
This episode does point out failings in the justice system. As soon as the cops have their eyes set on a suspect, they go after them hard. They don’t look at any of the other evidence or even ask logical questions of the situation. It took Alec and Rose doing extra digging, knowing that Helena wouldn’t have done it. Again, it made no sense for Helena to kill during a magic trick.

Kylie has a case of her own in The Irrational
After a successful date, Kylie comes to Marisa for help. Her date hasn’t texted her back, and Kylie wants to find out what happened. Naturally, Marisa believes that Kylie is being ghosted, and it’s something that the majority of us would believe.
Kylie doesn’t believe that. I love her confidence in herself, but everyone can end up being ghosted for all sorts of reasons.
In this case, Kylie found out that her date and her date’s parents had their phones stolen. Never ghost a tech wizard. She will find out what’s actually happened! It helps reunite with her date, but it does come with the reveal that the date was going to ghost Kylie. This was out of fear because the date had gone so well.
I’m glad that Kylie did learn the truth, and that it wasn’t just because something untoward happened. I don’t like people being ghosted, but Kylie did need her confidence in herself checked just a little bit. The two decided they will see where this relationship takes them, though, as they both admitted that it went well.
However, I do think that Kylie went about this in the wrong way. If a date did that to me, I would have been running away. That just seems a little unhinged and on a stalker level.
It’s going to be cute to see another relationship blossom in the series. Kylie needs more screen time on a personal level and not just with her work, so I look forward to seeing this develop. I do think the show really needs to give those who were about to run away from a relationship time to work through those feelings, though.
Alec admits why he doesn’t want to remove his shirt
Considering Alec and Rose have been together for a while now and have been intimate, Alec not taking his shirt off did seem odd. Alec later admitted that he still doesn’t like the way his scars look, but it just seems odd that it’s come up now.
It was great to see Alec open up to Rose about it, and as I expected, Rose was understanding and kind. With the way she acted with Marisa’s secret, I wouldn’t expect anything other than that from Rose.
It just all seems a little odd to me. I’m hoping all this builds to something else.
