We knew for Angelique to get in touch with Kylie, it meant that she needed something. We found out what that was in The Irrational season 2, episode 15.

Caution: This post contains SPOILERS for The Irrational season 2, episode 15.

The promo for the episode told us that Alec may have a serial killer on his hands. The episode opened with us in the present day, finding out that Alec did indeed help to catch a serial killer. The actual episode took place in the past, as Alec told the story of the events.

Angelique brought Kylie the case. Her new boss seems like the perfect guy, but there was something about him searching for ways to get rid of murder.

Is Ben the killer in The Irrational season 2, episode 15?

Angelique’s boss, Ben, comes in to take a test. He knows that Alec is testing him with the psychopathy tests. He’s taken these tests before, and he knows that he is definitely a psychopath. He makes it clear that he uses his powers for good.

Ben is interested in Alec, though, and that’s why he’s sticking around. Alec is very interested in Ben, but he needed to get to the bottom of the real questions. He needed to know if Ben was the one who killed all the people who died around him.

Well, in another twist, Ben figures out that Alec and Marisa are looking into the deaths, and he’s thrilled about that. He thinks that the killer is someone close to him, and he wants them to get to the bottom of it.

Could it be Reed, the CFO of the company? Well, Reed was working with a competitive company during the first murders, but that doesn’t completely rule him out, does it. And for some reason, Reed doesn’t want Marisa digging into this. Alec also wants to look into Victoria and Angelique, along with the rest of the circle.

The problem with working with psychopaths

It didn’t take long for some of them to start turning on each other. They all showed signs of psychopathy, but it was Reed who everyone started to turn their attentions to. Marisa managed to catch Reed in lies about not traveling to the initial locations when she went undercover to speak to Ben’s photographer.

However, Ben was way too quick to want to throw Reed under the bus.

Kylie was able to rule out Angelique, who shared that she had food poisoning in Bali. That turned out to be true, so she couldn’t be involved there. I guess there could have bene two killers, but I’m inclined to believe all this considering Angelique came to Kylie when there was no reason for it.

So, it went back to Reed, Ben, or Victoria. It’s made complicated when Simon is also there, as Victoria invited him as a date. Simon fits the victim profile, though, which makes Alec worried, but this is a great teaching moment for Simon. If that wasn’t enough, Reed’s house is completely black. He has a jammer, which really isn’t that surprising.

Of course, The Irrational wouldn’t bring danger without someone doing something they were told not to. Alec told Simon not to sneak around alone, but that’s exactly what Simon does. When people do this in TV shows or movies, don’t they deserve to have something happen to them? I know that’s victim blaming, but some people are just dumb in this fictionalized situations!

Well, it’s not Simon who actually becomes the next victim. Dax, the photographer, is in a locked room with a leaking furnace.

I’ve got to say that throughout the dinner party, there is no way that Alec would have played a psychopath. There were too many tells. That could be because we know him well enough, but I think anyone watching the show would have been able to tell that Alec was lying a lot throughout the episode without him telling Simon.

Who was the serial killer in The Irrational?

I think it was obvious all along that it really was Ben who was the killer. A real psychopath covering up his murders would give the cops everything needed. They’d do the classic misdirect to get people to look at others. There was always a story.

Reed was genuinely just trying to protect his boss. Victoria just didn’t care about things.

Alec was able to figure it out in the end, and he even got Ben to confess to a few things. It was worthy of an interview, so it makes sense that the episode started with it.

Simon seems to have a crush on Phoebe in The Irrational

It seemed like Phoebe coming into the middle of Simon and Rizwan could end up being a problem. It wasn’t the problem that it initially seemed like it would be. Simon isn’t being pushed out due to Phoebe and Rizwan’s initial relationship. Then there was the fear that Phoebe would be pushed out because of Rizwan and Simon’s brewing bromance.

Well, it looks like it could be Simon’s interest in Phoebe that could cause problems. Simon went out of his way to get to a bakery that Phoebe wanted to try. Rizwan was very quick to point that out.

Of course, Simon’s fear that he’s a psychopath is something that might get in the way of him and Phoebe. Simon has compassion, though. As Alec says, we all have psychopathic tendencies. Some of us a little more than others, but we know how to control things.

There is some hope for the two of them, though. Phoebe has also taken note of all Simon’s favorites. Yes, there’s a kiss at the end. This was a ship I didn’t see coming, to be honest.

The Irrational airs on Tuesdays at 10/9c on NBC. Catch up the following day on Peacock.
