The Rookie is heading on its first break of season 7. How long will it be, and why is this break happening?
When ABC told us The Rookie would be held for the midseason this year, we were also told that it was a good thing. With 18 episodes, it would mean minimal breaks. To have no breaks at all, I suggested that an end of January premiere date made sense, and then ABC opted to premiere the series at the beginning of the month.
That had to mean at least one break in the season. People didn’t want to believe me, but here we are. The Rookie season 7 will take its first break!
The Rookie won’t even get a rerun this week
In some terrible news, The Rookie fans won’t even get to see a rerun. The show is off the air on Tuesday, March 4, and we can blame politics for that. The Presidential Address to the Joint Session of Congress is taking place, starting at 9 p.m. ET. This means that the Big 4 networks will take the night off starting from this time.
ABC is taking the whole night off. There won’t be a new episode of Will Trent either, so as a Rookie fan, you don’t need to feel like you’re missing out.
How long will this break be?
In some good news, the break is a short one. ABC released the promo for The Rookie season 7, episode 9, which told us that the episode would air on Tuesday, March 11.
There may be one more break coming up, but there doesn’t need to be. When I looked at how 18 episodes would spread out, I worked out that one one-week break would take us to around the middle of May, which is when ABC likes to air its season finales.
The upcoming episode is a big one for Nyla Harper. James has been attacked, and as Nolan shares that James was spotted kissing another woman, Nyla becomes the suspect for the attack. We know that Nyla wouldn’t do something like this. She wouldn’t put her career and her life with her children on the line for a crime of passion. Something else is going on.
The problem is that Nolan is Nyla’s union rep, and he’s also the witness. That means he can’t represent her. So, who will have Nyla’s back in all of this, and how will she react when she learns that Nolan kept something like this from her?
