Back in 2007, you couldn’t read the newspapers without the story of Amanda Knox coming up. The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox is coming soon, and it will give us the highs and lows of her ordeal.
Yes, the new Hulu series is based on true events. In this case, Amanda Knox even executive produced the series along with a team to allow her to tell her story. It’s time for the world to stop judging and to start listening to the story she has remained true to.

Why was Amanda Knox arrested?
The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox follows the story of why Amanda was arrested and even charged with murder. She was later acquitted, retried, recharged, and acquitted again. It’s a story that many Americans wouldn’t ever fear happening to them thanks to the double jeopardy rule, but Italy doesn’t have such a thing.
In 2007, Amanda was just a regular American student studying in Italy for a year. When she returned home one day, her apartment in Perugia, Italy had been broken into and her roommate, Meredith Kercher, was found murdered.
Amanda was accused of murder, along with her then-boyfriend, Raffaele Sollecito. While the two were found guilty, their convictions were overturned four years later and Amanda was allowed to go home. Yet, the Italian courts weren’t happy, and they retried and convicted Amanda again, this time in absentia.
Would Amanda be extradited to Italy? She wasn’t, and eventually, the Italian Supreme Court overturned the second conviction and definitively exonerated her. It took until 2015 for all that to happen, but the ordeal wasn’t completely over.
She had accused a man called Patrick Lumumba of the murder. Due to this being false, she was sued for slander and that conviction was upheld in 2024.
The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox sees Amanda face the past
One of the issues with the entire case was with how the world became engrossed in the story. Rather than a court of law, it became a case in the court of public opinion, and that’s always so much worse.
Amanda hasn’t just sat down and taken the comments, though. She’s been able to reclaim her identity, stepping out as an activist and author, speaking extensively about her experience. The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox is another chance to do that, as she hopes to help others with their ordeals when they’ve been falsely accused of something so heinous.
The Twisted Tale of Amanda Knox premieres on Wednesday, Aug. 20 on Hulu.
