CBS likes to turn popular shows into franchises, so it’s quite surprising that there aren’t talks of a Tracker spin-off just yet. Of course, a lot of people would love to sees a Russell Shaw spin-off, and I’m on board with that, but Jensen Ackles is a busy man right now. There is a prequel spin-off series that I would love to see.
During the first season of Tracker, we met Colter’s handlers, Teddi and Velma. In the second season, Teddi has gone off to help her mother with something, leaving Velma to handle everything with Colter and send him on missions. Teddi is certainly missed, and while Robin Weigert isn’t showing signs of coming back to the series, there are other ways to bring the character in for a spin-off.
How did Teddi and Velma meet Colter Shaw?
We know now that Teddi and Velma have helped Colter with finding rewards to go after. They are also maternal figures to him, so it would be great to show how Teddi and Velma met Colter. We don’t have many details about their working relationship and when it started.
What’s interesting is the maternal relationship they have with Colter. Sure, they’re his handlers, but there’s more to this bond. Is it possible that they came across him as a kid? Did one of them actually know his parents, even just from a distance? A prequel spin-off would show us that.
It wouldn’t surprise me if one of them was in the rewardist game and the other a handler. This would help to explain how the two know so much about the life that Colter leads.
Show us how Teddi and Velma got started in Tracker
So, rather than show us how Teddi and Velma met and started working with Colter, what about how they met before Tracker? We know so little about their relationship, but it’s clear that it was full of fun and adventure.
They’ve no separated, so seeing some sense of friction in the past would be useful. We never got a sense that there were marital problems during Tracker season 1, but happy couples don’t just suddenly separate. What could have led to this? Was there something in their past that came up again? This would be something to explore.
The show could even do it as a Young Sheldon style of series, as well. Velma can tell the story, and once it gets to a problem, that’s when she could narrate that this was a red flag she should have spotted years ago.
I’m surprised Tracker hasn’t brought us a spin-off series yet, and a prequel one would be great. There’s a lot about Teddi and Velma that we don’t know.
