Untamed season 2 could potentially happen (but Netflix will have to do this 1 thing)

Untamed was written as a miniseries for Netflix.

I love a good miniseries, so when I see that something has been written as that, I get excited. It’s why I was happy to binge-watch Untamed, as I didn’t have to worry about it being canceled on a cliffhanger.

And yes, Untamed definitely works as a one-season series. The ending is twisty but a strong conclusion to the story that was told. We get the closure that we need, even if it’s not what we like. The downside to this is that the show was written so well that I would love to see a second season.

Untamed season 2 won’t likely continue the same character stories

With the way the first season ended (no spoilers here!) it’s not going to be easy to continue the story. This is one of those tales that wraps well, and there’s no need to keep it going. In fact, trying to find a way to turn a miniseries into a show that keeps going is often where everything fails. It’s clear that the writers didn’t initially decide they wanted to deal with the way the characters would have to deal with the aftermath of the previous season.

On top of that, a new murder would be needed. Now in somewhere like Yosemite, that does make sense and wouldn’t be too wild of a circumstance. However, the writing probably wouldn’t be as twisty as the clues would be there immediately.

We also have to wonder if everyone wants to return. Some people will choose to sign on for a six-episode miniseries and have no intention of keeping their characters going for another season.

Untamed could work as an anthology series

Netflix can get around this though if it wants. The best option would be to create an anthology serires, which has been done before. The Haunting of Hill House was such a success that it spawned into The Haunting of Bly Manor. On other networks, we saw Dirty John go from a one-season miniseries to an anthology story.

So, we could see something like this happen with Untamed. It would allow the series to move to another national park or even another country, following different characters and murder storyline. On top of that, we could find out that there is a connection as someone mentions the events of season 1 as they see similarities.

Right now, Netflix will need to look at the ratings to see if the series is worth continuing in some way. It may not have gained the viewership in the last week that Netflix needed, although when you say Eric Bana is in a show, most people are likely to tune in. Especially The Other Boleyn Girl and The Time Traveler’s Wife fans.

For now, you can binge-watch Untamed on Netflix.
