Ever since White Collar started airing on Netflix, it developed a new audience, including this writer. The show follows expert con man and forger Neal Caffrey, who is played by Matt Bomer. At the beginning of the series, Neal is in jail, finally caught by dogged FBI agent Peter Burke, played by Tim DeKay. Peter brings Neal an intriguing proposition. He can work for the White Collar division of the FBI, but he must wear a tracking device on his ankle. Naturally, Neal chooses his limited freedom.
During the series finale, Neal faked his own death and escaped to his favorite place, Paris. At first, Peter believed that Neal was dead. Then, one year later, he tracked down Neal's storage unit and unraveled Neal's greatest con. That is a huge hurdle for these two friends, and sometimes adversaries, to tackle.
In June 2024, Variety reported that Jeff Eastin, who created the series, shared some great news for White Collar fans.
“We’re gonna reboot. I’m writing the script,” Jeff told Variety. “If you get to the finale, with Neal [Bomer] walking in Paris, that was always the setup. I always left it open, and as the years passed, it seemed more like a distant hope."
Bomer, DeKay, and Tiffani Thiessen, who played Peter's wife, Elizabeth Burke are all set to return. Sadly, one main character will be missing from the revival. Neal's best friend, Mozzie, was played by the late actor Willie Garson. Without Mozzie, who also forged a friendship with Elizabeth, a big piece of the show is missing.
What do viewers most want to see in the White Collar reboot?
As a viewer, I want to see how Neal and Peter come back together. Does Peter track Neal down again? Does he need his help with a case? Or does this FBI suit just need answers from his friend? The fandom wants to know! Plus, I wouldn't mind seeing Neal have a real love interest, like insurance investigator Sara Ellis, played by Hilarie Burton. She was his longest relationship on the show, and their steamy chemistry and banter would be a welcome addition.
I also hope that we see a fitting tribute to Mozzie. He was such an integral part of the show, and his scenes with Neal were always incredible. DeKay indicated in the interview with Variety that Mozzie, and Willie, would be given a heartfelt tribute in the White Collar revival. Our tough, yet sweet, Mozzie deserves nothing less.
And finally, I can't wait to see how Peter is as a dad. Elizabeth gave birth in the series finale, and the couple named their son Neal. The duo had always wanted children, and I can't wait to see how Peter loosens up to deal with a child on the daily. He was always focused on work, and seeing him adjust to not being in control would be an interesting dynamic.
