More suspicions fall on Johnny in We Were Liars episode 3, as it proves that he is hiding a lot more than the others. Although, there are questions about why Mirren is also covering for him. Take a look at the events of the episode.

Caution: This post contains SPOILERS for We Were Liars episode 3.

It’s time for Tipper’s funeral, as we learn that she had an enlarged heart, and that’s why she suddenly died. They Sinclairs are all dealing in their own ways, with Cadence deciding to follow in her mom’s footsteps, closing off her heart and acting like Penny. That doesn’t go down well with everyone else, especially Gat.

However, there’s more to deal with as more secrets come out from Summer Sixteen. What exactly happened at the funeral between Johnn, Blake, and Mirren?

Johnny and Mirren may or may not be interested in the same guy in We Were Liars episode 3

As everyone grieves Tipper, Mirren reveals that she invited someone to the funeral to support her. It turns out that it’s Blake, someone from Johnny’s school, and it’s clear that Blake and Johnny have some sort of history.

In Summer Seventeen, Cadence decides to ask the Liars about Blake and everything that went down with him. Mirren explains that she went back to her place in Cuddledown, where she planned on freshening up to invite Blake over. Cady was supposed to send Blake to her, but she saw something that stopped her in her tracks.

She saw Blake and Johnny kissing each other after a small fight. It looked like the tension between them was that they were simply trying to hide who they really were, and Blake rushed off after Cady caught them together. Johnny goes along with this explanation, but it turns out that wasn’t the truth at all.

Cady tells Gat that she was testing the Liars to see who would tell her the truth or not. What she really saw was Blake punch Johnny during an argument about something Johnny did. There is a mention of Johnny almost killing someone, but we don’t get all the details. Blake leaves after that, still leaving Mirren behind — that part was true.

What Cady can’t understand is why Johnny would lie about his argument with Blake. She also can’t understand why Mirren would go along with it.

On top of that, Gat is now angry that Cady lied to them all about what she remembered. That means she lied to him as well, and Gat is angry that all of them are liars to him.

Harris threatens to cut everyone off in We Were Liars

Meanwhile, the Sinclair sisters are all lying to each other. Penny was supposed to bury Tipper with her black pearls, which is what Harris wanted. However, she decides to keep them, and she’s caught out by Bess and Carrie. The three sisters go to Harris arguing, and that’s when the truth comes out.

Harris knew that Tipper was funneling them money to keep them afloat. He points out that they all started with big trust funds, and they have all failed in life to the point where they still need Tipper and Harris’s financial help. He is done keeping them afloat now, and he makes it clear that the bank is closed.

Bess tries to point out that she hasn’t touched her trust fund, but that just makes her sound like a whiny brat. Harris doesn’t pay her any attention either. It doesn’t help that his dog has gotten loose in the house and has knocked everything over. Cadence and Gat try to keep the dog back, but it’s too late, and Harris looks at them in blame for what the dog has done.

The episode ends with Harris picking up a framed photo with Tipper in it, and he just walks away. As much as I can’t stand him, he is grieving hard in We Were Liars episode 3.

We are no closer to finding out what happened to Cadence on the beach that night, but clues seem to point at Johnny right now. Did Cadence learn something about him that made him want to kill her?
