If you’re looking for a summer YA mystery, then Prime Video looks to be the home for you. The new series We Were Liars is based on the E. Lockhart novel of the same name, and it drops on the Amazon streamer on Wednesday, June 18.
This is a binge-watch release, which means you need to carve out plenty of time to watch it. So, just how many episodes are in the story so that you have enough time? We have all the answers you need.
We Were Liars episode count
The new psychological thriller will have eight episodes in the first season. Each of the episodes of We Were Liars is around an hour long, which means you’ll need around eight hours to get through it all. One of the issues with a Wednesday drop is that you don’t usually have time for this due to work, so make sure you stay away from social media as there will be plenty of people spoiling the tale.
Lockhart has written the script for the final episode of the season. She was also one of the executive producers on the series, along with Julie Plec of The Vampire Diaries.

There could be more to the We Were Liars story
While this is a one-book story, there could be more to the series. Plec has already stated that she’s interested in doing a second season, and she wants to incorporate parts of Family of Liars within that second season. Family of Liars by E. Lockhart is a prequel story, covering the grandparents of the Sinclaire family.
We Were Liars is a standalone novel, with a story that wraps up by the end. Cadence remembers everything that happened the summer before, and it’s not a tale for the weak of heart. It’s unclear how the story could continue if the series follows the plotline followed out in the first book.

What is We Were Liars about?
The novel follows the Sinclaire family, a rich family that summers on Beechwood Island every summer. During Cadence’s 15th summer, something happens to her that she can’t remember. After suffering from a traumatic brain injury, she takes some time away and then returns two years later. She needs to remember the events of that fateful summer.
She ends up getting far more than she bargained for. It turns out that this is a family full of secrets, and Cadence may be the key to unlocking all of them.
We Were Liars drops on Prime Video on Wednesday, June 18.
