Amazon continues its push of YA books being turned into shows, and We Were Liars is the next thrilling mystery to check out. It’s based on the novel of the same name by E. Lockhart, and this is not a series to overlook if you love mysteries where you’re learning along with the characters.
The story follows the “perfect” Sinclair family. Of course, everyone has secrets, and that’s certainly the case for this family. One of the biggest is about what happened the night that one of the daughters was left for dead and almost killed.
We Were Liars premieres next week on Prime Video
There isn’t long left to wait for the new series to arrive. We Were Liars will premiere on Wednesday, June 18, and if you’re ready for a binge-watch, there’s some even better news. This entire season is dropping as one big binge-watch.
There’s some even more exciting news for fans of the original source material. Lockhart wrote the script for the season finale.
What is We Were Liars about?
Cadence Sinclair is the eldest granddaughter of the family, who finds herself suffering from a traumatic brain injury after a brief summer fling. It was all supposed to be a bit of fun, but things took a turn for the worse, and now Cadence is desperate to find out what happened to her that summer.
Cadence is just 15 at the time of the incident, and she spends the next two years in the dark. That is until she decides it’s time to go back to Beechwood Island. Maybe if she faces her past, she’ll be able to remember everything that happened. Will her family try to help her through this and remember, or are they the reasons she was left for dead?
Family of Liars has also been ordered to series
Lockhard has a prequel story within the universe, and there is some great news. That book has also been optioned and will be transformed into a series. Family of Liars tells the secrets of a different generation of the same family. There’s certainly a truth in the idea of not going digging at the skeletons in closets.
Julie Plec from The Vampire Diaries has transformed We Were Liars and she’ll also work on Family of Liars, but that series doesn’t have any details except that it’s been picked up.
We Were Liars isn’t planned as a limited series, either. Plec hopes to be able to continue a tale with a second season.
We Were Liars will drop on Prime Video on Wednesday, June 18.
