The promo for Accused season 2, episode 2 didn’t leave a lot to the imagination. It was clear that Taylor Schilling’s character, April, would end up involved in a road rage accident.

Caution: This post contains SPOILERS for Accused season 2, episode 2

Of course, we don’t always expect to see what happens in the trailer fully play out. There’s usually something else, and this episode had that. We got to see a mom who was at the end of her tether when it came to awful people.

Justin Chambers’s character, Tyler, was just the tip of the iceberg. There’s always that point where people who have tried to handle everything that’s thrown at them snap. Is that an excuse? Absolutely not, but it shows that this isn’t a case of murder and more of a case of manslaughter.

What did April do in Accused season 2, episode 2?

It didn’t take long to learn that April simply snapped. Her special needs son is bullied a lot, and she’s already tired and overworked dealing with that. Then she has this Tyler dude berating her and going off on her. It’s interesting that we never get to see him behind the wheel of the car, with the episode focused on April.

April ends up causing an accident with her road rage. That accident kills Tyler. It’s clear that she is on trial for this.

Is April found guilty in Accused?

There are times that we wonder if the jury will end up feeling some sort of compassion for the accused. That’s not the case here, and she is found guilty.

What is interesting is the way that the judge offers her some sympathy. She’s sentenced to three years in prison, which is nothing considering the crime that she is guilty of. However, it’s clear that this judge is factoring in everything that this woman has already gone through, and the special needs child that she has at home.

There’s a sense of relief with the sentencing, as well, and not because it’s a short one. April has a chance to figure out who she is and almost take a step back from everything that is weighing her down. Sure, it’ll be a long three years in prison, but it could also be a fulfilling three years if spent right.

Accused airs Tuesdays at 9/8c on FOX. Catch up the following day on Hulu.
