What could have been next for Wes Mitchell if FBI: International season 5 happened?

It's all about Wes Mitchell as we continue looking at what could have been for the characters in FBI: International.
“You’ve Been Greenlit” – When an American businessman is gunned down in Bratislava, the Fly Team must work with an unscrupulous local detective while safeguarding the sole witness, a fearful tourist from Wisconsin being held by police. Meanwhile, Quinn begins to feel pressure from her brother to deliver information on Mitchell, on FBI: INTERNATIONAL, Tuesday, Feb. 25 (9:00-10:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network, and streaming on Paramount+ (live and on-demand for Paramount+ with SHOWTIME

While FBI: International season 4 was never supposed to be the last, it became it, and that made the fourth season as a whole far more disappointing than it should have been. It really did become the Wes Mitchell show, and there are questions about whether that would have continued had FBI: International season 5 happened.

CBS canceled the series, with a disappointing reasoning, but the season 4 finale left us on some major cliffhangers. For Wes, he got to meet his half-sister, after accepting that she existed and maybe he had a need to be in her life. What could that have meant for him had FBI: International season 5 happened?

Could Wes have eventually left the Fly Team in FBI: International season 5?

It’s clear that Wes didn’t really have any intention of leaving the Fly Team after just one year of working with them, but that could have changed. He decided to step into his half-sister’s life at the end of the fourth season, where he could have been a positive male role model in her life. However, being halfway around the world and constantly traveling for his work wouldn’t have made it easy to have much of a relationship.

It would have been great to see him get to know his half-sister a little. He would have had the chance to show what it’s like to suddenly become a big brother, and he could have turned to Amanda for advice on handling the teenage mood swings. Eventually, he made have realized that he needed to be Stateside if he wanted to be in her life more.

Wes Mitchell showed an interest in Amanda in FBI: International

With turning to Amanda for some advice, it could have continued the brief spark the two had in FBI: International season 4. This spark was sudden, and it was a wasted moment, as it wasn’t even mentioned afterward. Wes may have just been drunk and acting on impulse, but what about Amanda? And shouldn’t he have said something when sober?

We could have seen more of a spark between the two of them, giving us a look at whether a workplace romance would be appropriate or not. Scott and Jamie had their relationship at the start of FBI: International, but it didn’t end up all that great. This could have shown the type of work it takes to make this sort of relationship work — or the two making the grownup, smart decision not to continue anything.

To be honest, the series could have done with stepping back from the development of Wes in FBI: International season 5. More focus needed to be on the underdeveloped characters of the series.

FBI: International is available to stream on Paramount+.
