There’s a new Canadian crime drama heading to TV screens. At least, to Canadian TV screens. With some hope, this will be one of those picked up by a U.S. network soon. It’s all about Saint-Pierre.
The new series premieres on CBC and CBC Gem on Monday, Jan. 6. It certainly looks like it will bring a mixture of comedy and drama, with intrigue and a reminder not to assume someone doesn’t speak your language! Look, Canadians learn French as a second language, and some of them actually become pretty good at it!
Take a look inside what to expect in Saint-Pierre
The series gets its name from the location we find our main characters in. Allan Hawco, who also co-created the series and is co-showrunner, stars as Donny “Fitz” Fitzpatrick. He’s a commended Royal Newfoundland Constabulary Inspector, but he ends up causing problems when he digs too deeply into a politician’s nefarious activity. Of course, that politician is willing to use his connections, getting Fitz exiled to Saint-Perre et Miquelon, a French Territory nestled just off the coast of Newfoundland in the Atlantic Ocean.
Fitz disrupts everything on the island for Deputy Chief Geneviève “Arch” Archambault, played by Josephine Jobert. She’s from Paris, and she’s on the island for her own needs and reasons. As she says in the trailer, people come to the area for one of two reasons: they love the beauty of the island, or they’re running away from their past.
Fitz has a past, and so does Arch. Those pasts look like they could collide based on a certain “murder board” that Arch is working on. How is Fitz connected to a crime that she’s looking into?
The two detectives clearly have different styles and expectations at first, but somehow, they will learn how to work together. Maybe their differences can end up becoming a strength within the police force as a whole. Can working together also help Fitz get back to where he originally loved to work, or is he stuck in Saint-Pierre forever?

Where to watch Saint-Pierre
As of right now, this is only available in Canada. It will air on CBC on Mondays at 9/8c, and it will stream on CBC Gem. I hope to see this series head to a U.S. network, though, as it looks like a lot of fun.
We have seen a lot of Canadian shows head over to U.S. networks. A lot of CBC dramas go to Acorn TV or The CW, such as Murdoch Mysteries and Burden of Truth. Maybe we’ll see The CW license this show as well.
Saint-Pierre premieres on Monday, Jan. 6 at 9/8c on CBC and CBC Gem.
