If there is one way I’d love to see FBI: Most Wanted end, it’s with Sheryll Barnes taking over as the leader of the Fugitive Task Force. I would have loved to see that happen shortly after Special Agent Jess LaCroix’s death in the third season, but the series chose to bring Dylan McDermott’s character in instead.
Caution: This post contains minor SPOILERS for FBI: Most Wanted season 6, episode 14.
Don’t get me wrong; it’s been a pleasure to watch McDermott play a good guy after years of seeing him as a villain. However, I would love for FBI: Most Wanted to give Barnes the promotion she needs. This latest episode proved that she can run the show.
Where was Remy Scott in FBI: Most Wanted season 6, episode 14?
As usual, FBI: Most Wanted saw a cast member take a night off. This time it was Remy’s turn, and we got a quick explanation that he was somewhere overseas. It’s likely that this is for a vacation, but the show could have done a great job of offering a mini crossover with FBI: International and have Remy help out the Fly Team if they wanted. But even the best agents need some time off from work, so we’ll let him have his vacation.
This decision is a financial one. When FBI and FBI: Most Wanted were renewed in 2024, it came with the caveat that some of the cast members wouldn’t be in certain episodes. Like with Law & Order and the One Chicago franchise, the shows need to save money and taking a cast member out now and then is the quickest and easiest way to do it.
FBI: Most Wanted should end with Barnes taking over
As much as we don’t want it to happen, FBI: Most Wanted is coming to an end with its sixth season. The good news is that the writers have a chance to craft an ending, as the final episodes still haven’t been filmed. With the recent episode, we got a chance to see Barnes take over, and she certainly took charge in her own way. This is something she has done numerous times, making it clear that she has a different leadership style to Remy.
The team trusts and respects Barnes, as well. Barnes has been with the Fugitive Task Force since the beginning of the series, being one of just two OG characters left. She has the experience in the field, and she’s put her life on the line for her team members in the past.
She just needs to work up through the ranks with a position opening up. Considering Remy is currently dealing with the long-distance relationship, he could choose to leave the task force and take up a position to be closer to his heart, and that could allow Barnes to move up the career ladder and take over in the final episode of FBI: Most Wanted.
FBI: Most Wanted airs on Tuesdays at 10/9c on CBS. Catch up the following day on Paramount+.
