Will Trent just had a big wedding, but was it coming too soon for the show?
Caution: This article contains SPOILERS for Will Trent season 4 episode 6 “You’re Not That Person Anymore.”
Season 4 of Will Trent has had the subplot of Angie Polaski (Erika Christensen) handling being pregnant and living with boyfriend Dr. Seth (Scott Foley). As the episode opened, Angie heard Seth arguing on the phone with his sisters about his future with Angie. That drove her to plan a major surprise.
The episode ended with Angie and Seth going to dinner, only for Seth to find it was an impromptu wedding officiated by Wilks (Kevin Daniels). The pair shared heartfelt vows and tied the knot. It was beautiful and heartfelt, yet is it really the right move?
There are still fans holding out hope for Angie and Will (Ramon Rodriguez) to somehow make it work. That seems to be over as Will gave Angie heartfelt advice and his blessing (with the wonderful line, “How can you not be special, Angie? He gets to marry you.”), so that seems to have settled them as just friends.
While both have moved on, Will is a major presence in Angie’s life and Seth himself acknowledges they have a connection he can’t match. That worry that he’s the second choice in Angie’s life could linger in Seth’s mind to drive a wedge between them.
It does seem that Angie was pressured into this not just by her pregnancy but also by the worry that Seth might somehow leave her. Angie has learned the hard way that taking things for granted, along with her many problems, cost her Will, almost cost her job, and nearly landed her in prison.
Angie clearly does love Seth, yet also longs for a normal life, far better than the one she grew up in. She’s terrified of ending up like her addict mother and the desire to be a good mom drives her. It could be that, rather than doing this for true love, Angie is seeking a brighter life for herself.
There’s also how she was rushing into this after hearing Seth talking to his sisters, as if worried he might break up with her. Marriages that start off so fast rarely work out well, and given Angie’s job as a cop, the pressure will be higher. Throw in a coming child, and the pair are in for some huge changes.
While the wedding was lovely, it was thrown together in a day and not the huge event either Seth or Angie initially wanted. Hopefully, the pair are able to make it, but fans may be worried that Angie’s rush to become a wife and mother may end up being yet another of her big mistakes.
Will Trent airs Tuesdays at 8/7c on ABC.
