Will Trent season 4 is coming in 2026 (and here's the most likely premiere date)

We have to wait until 2026 for Will Trent season 4, but it shouldn't be too late into the month.

It was both a little disappointing but unsurprising to hear that Will Trent season 4 would be held until 2026. We would love to get closure on the cliffhangers right away, but we know that the reasoning behind the delay is understandable.

As much as we hated waiting for Will Trent season 3 in 2025, getting back-to-back episodes was beautiful! We didn’t have the consistent on-off schedule that so many other shows had, and it felt like we could really invest time in the series. So, it eases the disappointment knowing that ABC is doing the same for season 4.

Will Trent season 4 is likely to arrive in January 2026

We’re expecting to see Will Trent season 4 in January 2026. There’s no guarantee of that just yet, but it makes the most sense based on the statements from ABC. The idea of pushing the premiere back to 2026 is to ensure there’s a straight run through to the end of the season.

ABC will still want the season finale to air in May, similar to the 2024–2025 TV season. At the same time, we know there are likely 18 episodes to the season again, and that means we need 18 to 19 weeks — as there’s likely going to be one Tuesday off for politics, as there is every year.

So, if we say that the Will Trent season 4 finale will likely to air around Tuesday, May 12, we’re looking at the season premiere to be around Tuesday, Jan. 6.

What to expect in Will Trent season 4

The new season will pick up off the back of the shocking cliffhanger. Lives were put on the line, with Amanda left in a coma after her incident with the people holding her hostage, and Ormewood collapsing from his brain tumor.

Will was by Amanda’s side, making it clear that he needed her to pull through. She is his family, and he needs her in his life.

Speaking of family, though, he did learn that his biological father is a cop as well. This man had no idea that Will existed, and now he wants to get to know his son. I love that we have the opportunity of this relationship, but also that we get to see Will step back from it all for a while. Will Trent season 4 could see him accept new people in his life and meet Caleb’s family.

Will Trent season 4 is likely to premiere in January 2026 on ABC.
