Prodigal Son: How much time is missing from Malcolm’s memory?
Prodigal Son has wasted no time in delivering some of Malcolm’s darkest secrets. The twist is that he doesn’t actually remember everything.
In Prodigal Son Episode 2, we got to know a little more about Malcolm’s past. While most crime dramas with a dark family history will allow the protagonist to slowly tell his story, this series is doing something slightly different. Our main protagonist, Malcolm, doesn’t know the full truth.
Caution: We’re getting into spoilers for Prodigal Son Episode 2. If you haven’t watched the episode yet, I highly encourage you to check it out first. Don’t forget to check out Precinct TV for more updates on the series and all your favorite TV crime dramas.
The episode opened us up to Malcolm waking from a night terror. We found out just how serious his night terrors get. If you thought him attacking Powell at the station was bad, wait until you see the straps he uses to physically keep him in bed on a night!
But that’s not what’s important right now. It was all about the night terror he woke from. There was a woman in a box. But once the police were there, the woman was gone. For years, he’s been told that he was seeing things or imagining the woman in the box, but Malcolm knows that’s not true.
There was a woman in that box. And he did call the cops because of that woman. However, it turns out that seeing the woman in the box may not have been the same night that he called the cops.
This isn’t a mystery just for us to put together. This isn’t a case of the protagonist not quite giving us the full story right away. He doesn’t know the full story, and we can thank his dad for that.

When Malcolm found the woman, his dad knocked him out with chloroform. After that, it looks like his dad kept him knocked out for some time, giving “The Surgeon” a chance to get the body out of the box and hidden away somewhere.
Now the big question isn’t what happened to the woman. For Malcolm, it’s how long it took for him to go from seeing the woman to calling the cops. How much time has passed and what did he do during that time?
Is it possible in a drugged up state that Malcolm helped his father dispose of the woman’s body? Did he help to kill the woman? Is this part of the mystery that Malcolm has to now untangle?
