Blue Bloods digs up stories from the Reagans’ past in Behind The Smile. Learn more in our Blue Bloods season 10, episode 3 preview.
Tonight’s episode of Blue Bloods is about how choices made in the past affect our present. Who will have the benefit, or frustration, of hindsight?
In “Behind The Smile,” the CBS crime drama focuses on what we thought we knew, and how it’s not necessarily true. Frank Reagan (Tom Selleck) learns shocking details about a late friend from her vengeful son, which alters his opinion of her.
Meanwhile, Erin Reagan (Bridget Moynahan) has one of her cases come back to haunt her. When her brother Jamie Reagan (Will Estes) is shot at while on duty, Erin learns that the shooter was a convict she chose not to put behind bars a half year earlier. It goes without saying that decision is one she’ll regret since it unknowingly put Jamie’s life at risk later on.
Will Erin get a second chance to prosecute the suspect, this time for attempted murder of her own brother? If she does she’ll almost certainly make a different choice the next time around. And how will Frank choose to remember his friend? As the woman he knew, or based on whatever he learns from a source that might be biased?

Emotions will definitely run high here. Erin had no idea of knowing six months prior that one of her sentencing decisions would put Jamie in danger, but now she’ll want to make things right. And the idea of Frank having to not only deal with loss, but with realizing he was also wrong about a friend he cared for—that has to be tough too.
But that’s why they have their family. Blue Bloods has always been as much a family drama as it is a crime drama, and the Reagans will undoubtedly lean on each other as they make peace with all of the new information.
