Is it possible to hypnotize someone to kill for you? That’s a question for the team in NCIS Season 17, Episode 5. Here’s a look at what to expect in tonight’s all-new episode, titled “Wide Awake.”
The team are called to investigate a murder. It’s their jurisdiction because Marine Cpl. Laney Alimonte did the murdering. However, it turns out she was getting treatment for insomnia. That treatment was hypnotherapy. I’m sure we all know how Gibbs is going to react to hearing that, but the team will need to treat every lead he gets.

Does Alimonte remember her actions? Was it even her or just made to look like her? That’s something we’ll delve into throughout the episode. Get ready for a twisty case.
Meanwhile, Gibbs has a case of his own. He has new neighbors and the nine-year-old son’s baseball crashes through his window. Who is responsible for something like that? He’s going to figure out who it is and why, protecting the new neighbors and make them feel welcome.
We’ll also get some connections back to the end of Season 16. During Episode 22, Gibbs admitted that he killed the man who killed his family in cold blood. Was it all that surprising? While Gibbs has his morals, grief makes us do questionable things, and I honestly wasn’t all that surprised that it turned out he went after his family’s killer in revenge.
The team was torn on the subject. However, it did lead to Gibbs turning to Dr. Grace Confalone. She’s back in tonight’s episode, but will it be to discuss the old case or to talk about hypnotherapy?
