Are Hondo and Nichelle right for each other on SWAT?

SWAT Season 3 has brought in a potential love interest for Hondo? Is Nichelle right for him? Here’s a look at the potential pros and cons.

With Jessica Cortez’s exit, it was only a matter of time before SWAT Season 3 brought in a new love interest for Hondo. That has come in the form of Nichelle, played by the excellent Rochelle Aytes. The question is whether the two are right for each other.

There is certainly some chemistry there, and Hondo is clearly interested in Nichelle’s life. He wanted to be there for the poetry reading, but couldn’t because of his job. If she’d known the situation he was actually dealing with, she’d probably agree. However, there’s something that stood out in Episode 8 that makes me question if they are right for each other.

Nichelle was more than happy to ask around about Hondo. And she was more than happy to find out what others thought about him. In fact, she even asked for a grade. And it wasn’t good.

The fact that she’s willing to speak to others and hear about him before even really getting to know him sets of warning bells for me. Hondo points out that she’s smart enough to make her own decisions, that she doesn’t need to listen to others. That certainly seems true, but the fact she can’t seem to trust her own judgment is concerning.

This is something Hondo should be concerned about. He’s clearly re-evaluating his life choices. After everything that’s happened with his father, he wants to make things right in his own life, and that means looking at relationships differently. We all want to change as we mature and get older, so it’s not surprising Hondo wants to do this.

Nichelle is looking at his past. What she’s not doing is seeing how he’s potentially adapted over the years. Sure, she’s only just got to know him, but she’s not giving him the benefit of the doubt right now. While she doesn’t want to get her heart broken, surely she should be willing to give him a chance before talking to others about him.

I would love to see her step back from the gossip and use her own judgment. Something about the current storyline has just rubbed me the wrong way.
