There’s a second New Year’s Resolution The Blacklist needs to make for a fun episode. It’s time to bring in Boston Legal’s Denny Crane.

Fans of James Spader will no doubt remember him from his days in Boston Legal, the legal drama that ran between 2004 and 2008. If you haven’t checked it out yet, you’ll want to head to Amazon Prime Video right now. It’s a must for every fan of The Blacklist.

And this brings me to the second New Year’s Resolution The Blacklist should make. It’s time to bring in Denny Crane. Okay, maybe not quite Denny Crane, but at least bring William Shatner in as a guest star.

While I’ve tried to stick to one resolution per show, some shows certainly need to make multiple changes. And this one is just a bit of fun for a single episode.

The show: The Blacklist

The resolution: Have William Shatner guest star

Why it needs to be made: Fans of Boston Legal will have watched the series mainly for James Spader and William Shatner’s undeniable chemistry. Despite their characters having very different political viewpoints and interests, they always found some common ground. They were able to sound each other out and Spader’s Alan Shore would always look out for Shatner’s Denny Crane.

My parents would call Boston Legal the Shatner and Spader hour. There was no series without the two of them, especially since every single episode ended with them on Denny’s balcony with a drink and a cigar to unwind after the day and reminisce over lessons learned.

It’s the chemistry between the two actors that leads to this need to bring Shatner into the story. We only need an episode, but it would just be so much fun to see the two actors back on the screen together.

They could even have an “I’ve met you somewhere before” sort of storyline. Or maybe something where the two have worked under other aliases, posing as lawyers at some point. While The Blacklist isn’t known for breaking the fourth wall, Boston Legal would regularly remark how it was a TV show. For one episode, the crime drama would get away with mentioning it, especially with the aliases Spader’s Red has.

This New Year’s Resolution would just serve as a little fan service. I don’t think the series has much longer left in it with its low ratings during the first half of Season 7. Now would be a great time to just have a little fun for an episode.
