Every now and then, TV shows need to take a week or so off from new episodes. That’s the case this week on NBC. Chicago PD isn’t new, but it is on tonight, Jan. 29.
If you watch TV crime dramas on other networks, you’ll know that some of them have been off for a few weeks. There have been reruns but no new episodes for the likes of NCIS: LA and Hawaii Five-0. That’s the case this week for Chicago PD. While there is an episode on, it’s not a new episode on Jan. 29.
The break is likely linked to scheduling reasons more than anything else. This isn’t all that uncommon, as with longer TV shows, the filming continues while the episodes air and the networks want to make sure as many new episodes air during February and May as possible (the big months for the Nielsen TV viewing sweeps.

So, with that in mind, we’re getting a rerun tonight. It’s of the Season 7 episode, “False Positive,” which saw Jay rocked by a drug bust gone wrong. Two kids ended up being shot down while they were playing videogames, and it was a case that Jay needed to close.

This is also the episode that links to the midseason premiere. Remember all that talk of Jay getting the wrong guy, a guy who later died from injuries sustained in jail? This is that episode, so if you didn’t get the chance to watch it first time around, this is a good time to catch up. You’ll see just why Jay formed a connection with Marcus’ family.
As for the next new episode of Chicago PD Season 7, we’re looking ahead at Feb. 5. It’s really not that long to wait. Titled “I Was Here,” the case focuses more on Burgess, as she helps a girl who is a victim of sex trafficking. We can expect her pregnancy hormones to play a part in this, as she likely fears what could happen for her own child in the dark world of Chicago.
