Prodigal Son certainly delivered an intense and powerful episode. It left us with one major question about the fate of one of our favorites.

Caution: There are major spoilers for Prodigal Son Season 1, Episode 14. You’ll want to watch the episode before reading this.

Prodigal Son hasn’t held back since it began. We’ve always know that things would eventually come to a head, but did we really think it would happen in the way it did? The show promised the most shocking episodes yet, and it delivered.

At the end, we were left with one question: would Martin Whitly survive?

Trouble for the Whitlys

Wait, what happened to The Surgeon? Jessica was given a task: to kill her ex-husband in order to save an innocent woman. And she was willing to do that. She just wasn’t expecting Malcolm to be there at the time, and it was him who stabbed his father.

More from Prodigal Son News

There was a quick mention of something that reminded Malcolm of a previous visit with his dad; a place to stab the heart without the risk of immediate death. However, it would take an excellent surgeon to save Martin’s life.

“Eye of the Needle” ended with Martin’s life in limbo, and judging from the promo for the next episode, that’s the way things will stay for a while. In a way, I don’t think the show is going to kill Martin Whitly off. He’s the perfect balance of psychopath and comedian. There have been some of the funniest moments because of Michael Sheen’s character. We get the balance between good and evil with Malcolm and Martin.

A bigger storyline moving forward

Instead of killing Whitly off, I have a feeling that the events allow the chance to explore other storylines. We get the questions of whether Jessica or Malcolm will be charged with anything. The promo for Prodigal Son Season 1, Episode 15 makes it clear that the cops are looking to charge someone.

Right now, Jessica is the one in the firing line. She’s taking the blame so her son doesn’t have to. However, it’s clear that most people know that Malcolm is the one who stabbed the Surgeon. There’s going to be a lot of pressure put on Jessica to get her to turn on her own son.

When The Surgeon wakes up, there’s then going to be a bigger question of whether he’ll tell the police everything. Will he turn his son over to make sure his son finally suffers? Or will he be proud of what his son was able to do?

All I know is that Prodigal Son has always been one step ahead willing to surprise us. The writers are on top of their game, especially after that episode.
