Rojas had to make a difficult call at the end of Chicago PD Season 7, Episode 14. It’s one that has left her with guilt. But was it the right call?

Chicago PD Season 7, Episode 14 delivered a Rojas-centric episode. It was a necessary one, getting to know the newest member of the team a little better. The bond she and Atwater seem to be building was perfect, also giving Atwater some extra screentime, which I’ve been waiting for a while for!

At the end of the episode, she needed to make a tough call, and it’s one that has left her with a lot of guilt. Was it the right call in the end?

Personally, I’m going to defend Rojas. It’s taking a while for some viewers to get used to her, but I think there are some understandable reasons for that. Jon Seda was taken out of the show without warning (and it seems like for creative decisions on the EPs’ part instead of Seda’s choice) and it’s meant that we’ve had to get used to this new character.

So far, we’ve not really had the chance to get to know Rojas. This has been the first real episode she’s taken center stage, and it’s natural to be cautious when it comes to liking new characters. But I do think this episode of Chicago PD gave her a chance to show her strengths, her weaknesses, and her compassion.

It’s the compassion part of her that makes her feel guilty for the end result in the episode. Rojas shot the suspect, believing him to have the gun. It turned out it was a cellphone in his hand, making Rojas immediately feel like she’d made the wrong call. But as she said to Upton, this suspect had a gun in his hand before this point. He’d obviously stashed it somewhere, but nobody could have been certain of that.

The uncertainty made Rojas’s decision the right one. She and Upton knew that the suspect had a gun and he was dangerous with it. He’d already shot at them. They had no idea that she no longer had that gun in his position, and they had to make a call within seconds as it looked like he was reaching for that gun again.

This wasn’t a case of a cop shooting first and asking questions later. Rojas didn’t want it to go this far and had tried extremely hard to help the suspect throughout the episode. She wanted to make sure he got the medical help he needed.

And it’s because of this storyline that I’ve come to like Rojas a little more on Chicago PD. I feel like I’ve had the chance to get to know her, and her guilt and fear were real when she realized she could have made the wrong call. I just hope she doesn’t carry it with her for too long after.
