4. Gibbs opens up to Brooks

NCIS fans know that Gibbs is a very private person and doesn’t like to talk about things going on in his personal life too often, especially if those things involve his past. But he does occasionally open up to certain people he feels closest to—Dr. Mallard, Abby Sciuto, Tobias Fornell, even Mike France, to name a few. These moments are few and far between, so we were thrilled that NCIS gave us another one in “Lonely Hearts.”

After his failed undercover mission and subsequent break-up with his girlfriend, Brooks is found sulking in Gibbs’ house. Eventually, the two military veterans are seen having a heart-to-heart on Gibbs’ couch about their personal lives.

Gibbs tells Brooks—and by extension, the NCIS audience—that there are times he is lonely and that sometimes his boat isn’t enough to keep him happy. He also says that he wouldn’t necessarily turn down a relationship if it came his way, but then alludes to maybe not having enough time to spare right now for a relationship.

This gives Brooks an idea. In the conclusion of “Lonely Hearts,” Brooks shows up at Gibbs’ house again, but this time to give him a gift—a new touchscreen smartphone. And the real surprise is inside: he’s also created a dating profile for Gibbs that he can access on his new phone.Brooks explains to Gibbs how to use the app.

Gibbs thanks his friend for the generous gesture, but then in a classic Gibbs moment, he casually tossed the phone into his fireplace and went to sleep. So NCIS isn’t going to change his bachelor ways anytime soon (except maybe if that Sloane rumor persists), but at least we got a nice scene where we learned a little more about him.
