In NCIS Season 17, Episode 17, Bishop got rid of a lot of items in her spring cleaning. It’s clearly just the beginning of a transformation, but why?
Throughout NCIS Season 17, Episode 17, the team did some spring cleaning. They were getting rid of items from their home that they didn’t need anymore. But Bishop got rid of a lot more than others, later claiming that she’s evolving and she doesn’t need it anymore. There’s clearly more going on and I get the sense Gibbs has a feeling of this too.
After telling Gibbs that she isn’t holding onto the past, she got a text from Odette. For those who don’t remember, Odette was the ex-CIA friend of Ziva, the one posing as Ziva’s landlord. When Ziva left, Odette told Bishop she saw promise and wanted to offer Bishop some specialized training.

It looks like that is exactly what is going on. What are the chances that getting rid of personal items from the past is part of this specialized process? After all, without the physical memories of the past, it’s often easier to let go of the feelings of the past.
We know that Ziva didn’t keep too much of the past. She had the locket that Tali had picked out for her, but that was really it. She had to leave everything behind. Even in the rented office, there wasn’t much in the way of personal items; just the journals.

Concerning for the team members
As a one-off, Bishop’s actions aren’t all that concerning. Her friends will wonder why she’s getting rid of items but could just look at it as a way for Bishop to clear out some space. However, they’re clearly worried that something else is going on.
The more training Bishop receives from Odette, the more worried the team will become. I wouldn’t be surprised if the end of the season leads to Gibbs and the others finding out that Bishop is doing questionable things. We know Gibbs didn’t like the way Ziva handled some situations, and there have been times Gibbs has questioned Bishop’s actions.
We could see Bishop pull away from her team more. She may take on some side missions, which could lead to her getting into some trouble of her own. How long will it take for the specialized training to go from purging to killing?
Sadly, we’re not going to find out next week. The show is taking another week off before returning with new episodes on Mar. 24.
